On Valentine’s Day this year, Venture Beat reporter Evan Blass announced that Nokia was going to revive its famous classic 3310 model at the Mobile World Congress, held on 26 February in Barcelona.

True enough, HMD Global Oy – the Finnish producer with exclusive rights to market mobile phones under the Nokia brand – unveiled the redesigned model at the event.

The Nokia 3310, originally launched back in 2000, has sold more than 126 million units and went on to become one of the most popular mobile phones of all time. It was known for its hardiness – touted as being nearly “indestructible”, remarkable long-lasting battery life, and classic ‘Snake’ game.

The overhauled façade isn’t a far cry from the phone’s original design. Nokia has stayed committed to the gadget’s reliable battery life – 22 hours of talk time; capable of staying alive for up to a month on standby – as well as an updated version of ‘Snake’.

As nostalgic as the Nokia 3310 may be, it can’t be considered a competitor to devices in the smartphone market, what with the 2G mobile’s two-megapixel rear camera. Nevertheless, for those who get tired of their smartphones, be prepared to get your hands on the upgraded 3310 at a more affordable US$52 (€49) when it’s available for purchase later this year.
